Sit like a typist
Good typing starts before you press a key. A relaxed, steady position lets your fingers move less and tire later, so speed comes naturally and your wrists stay healthy.
Feet flat on the floor, back against the chair, shoulders loose. Your thighs roughly level.
Elbows bent at about 90°, close to your body. Forearms level with the keyboard.
Keep wrists straight and slightly lifted while typing. Rest them only in pauses, never bend them up.
The top of the screen at or just below eye height, about an arm's length away.
Curve your fingers
Let your fingers curl gently, as if holding a small ball, so the fingertips touch the keys. Tap the keys lightly; you don't need to press them to the bottom.
Take short breaks
- Every 20 to 30 minutes, stand up, roll your shoulders and stretch your fingers.
- Look at something far away for 20 seconds to rest your eyes.
- If your hands or wrists hurt, stop. Pain is a signal to rest, not to push through.
